These are a series of colour works in ink reworked and edited from my pen and ink sketches of the local area. It was interesting to note how they created a new dynamic all of their own.
The Markhouse Cafe
The original is much enhanced by a splash of colour. Pen and Ink 16cm x 18cm
Zone 2 cattle
Cattle in glorious technicolour. Adding colour enabled me to pick out the thistle heads in the grasses. Pen and Ink 16cm x 18cm
Riverside cafe bridge
I added the dog to cover an earlier sin of getting the cafe name wrong on the drawing.
Casimir in colour
Adding the washes of colour helped to pick out the detail lost in the original. It breathes into life… Pen and Ink 16cm x 18cm
Anchor and Hope Pub in colour
Adding the colour to the original adds another dimension and lifts it off the page.
Riverside Cafe and people
I populated the original ink drawing with people as it felt a bit sad and lonely with no one there. The dog is becoming a bit of a theme.
West Reservoir in colour
This was my first foray into colourising the original black and whites and I deliberately painted in block colour like an overlay in comic printing. I like it. Pen and Ink 16cm x 18cm
Railway bridge in colour
The powerful saturated colours of the inks were a challenge to control and tame. I added another dog for good luck. Pen and Ink 16cm x 18cm
